Skip counting

I am learning to skip count in 5s.  Next I will be try skip counting on from a number.

Reading eggs

I am learning to recognise digraphs and blends so I can read the sounds that two letters make.  Reading Eggs helps me to reinforce my learning.

" Reading Eggs helps me to learn about spelling words." said Henry

Acrostic poem

I am learning how to write an acrostic poem.  I know that I start each sentence with a letter of the subject.  I wrote about myself. 

"My writing is so neat I think. I can spell some words. I know all the letters now - not before." Henry

Bird pillow

For our Art Exhibition this year we learnt how to sketch a bird.  The final drawing was transferred onto calico and dye was added.  The bird was glued onto a pillow that Mrs Scott and Mrs Worsfold had sewn.  Don't they look great!

Fathers day

I am learning to write number sentences to 10

I am learning to write number sentences to 10 and use this knowledge, when I play games, to solve problems in my head.

"I can add numbers together.  I can take away numbers too." said Henry

Mrs Worsfold said, "It was so lovely to see you sharing all your learning with your parents. It looked like they were enjoying playing the Maths game with you."

I am learning to place a sentence in order.

I am learning to construct a sentence, reading it as I go to make sure my reading makes sense.

"I can sound the words out because some words I don't know." said Henry

We are learning to write for an audience and publish quality work to share.

" I like the buddies reading to me. They say nice things. They like my work."

I am learning to make patterns to 5

Henry, you are able to recognise patterns to 5 using concrete materials.  We are now going to work on instantly recalling these patterns to 5.

"I can make the pattern to 5 and now we are learning to count to 100 on our whiteboards."said Henry

Elm Park 50th Birthday Party

We launched our Celebration Inquiry with a huge party for Elm Park School. This year our school will turn 50! We had a great day with our school friends and our whanau.

Henry said," We had a birthday party. I liked all the games and the cookie was so nice. I blew big bubbles and did the parachute so high."

I am learning to form my numerals correctly.

I am learning to write my numbers around the right way.  I am able to write up to 20 correctly but I need to remember my teen numbers begin with 17,18,19.

Henry said, "My numbers are good because the 20 is a good number and it looks right."

I am learning to make a rhyming string.

I am learning to find words that end with the same rhyming sounds.
I am learning to make a pattern of my own.

Henry said," I got a new book and I can read lots of words at the back of my homework book."

I am learning water safety

I am learning to enter and exit the pool safely.

I am learning to glide on my front with a flutter board.

I am learning to float on my back with and without a board.

I am learning to manage myself and get changed independently.

The whole class got a lot quicker at getting ready!

Henry said, " Sometimes I splash in the water. I like throwing the hoops."
